Prerequisite: None

Teacher: Imad HALLAK

Number of classes: 13

This course is for students who do not know the Arabic Alphabet and want to start from scratch. It is necessary to master the materials studied in this level to be able to continue the second course A002 or CA002.

We will cover the history of the Arabic language, sounds, consonants, vowels, and notations. By the end of the course, the student will have learned 140 words, and the student should be able to read and write texts seen for the first time.

Students will also be introduced to the structure of the Arabic language. This will begin by the Nominal sentence, the different kinds of predicates, the genitive construction, and the adjective. The student will also learn the personal pronouns, and be introduced to the demonstrative and relative nouns, as well as learn the proper naming convention in Arabic culture.

The registered student will have interactive software to run at home to practice Arabic for 50 hours during the semester. The games are quite interesting and reinforce the linguistic skills.

The student will be provided with 3 stories recorded on slow and fast tracks to perfect reading and pronunciation, by play and repetition as many time as each individual needs.

The student will also have exercises for writing skills, to connect the letters of beautiful Arabic poems/songs.

Students will have access to optional materials to also learn short suras - chapters from the holy Quran such as chapters 1, 110, 112, 113, and 114.

Students will also learn to greet someone at different times of day: say please and thank you; ask about school and the job, and express simple feelings.

At the end of the course, students will be able to compose beautiful nominal sentences that fascinate Arab native speakers.
